Nearpod
Nearpod is an interactive presentation. Students can individually watch a lesson and answer questions within the lesson to check for understanding. They join an "event" and it can be used for a flipped classroom or review. It would be good. Teachers can create presentations or download premade ones. Example: I found one that shows the differentiation between revising and editing. I could have the students watch it on their own time at the beginning of class and then spend more time working one-on-one with them on the pieces of writing practicing those ideas. |
Language Arts Grade 5
Language Arts Grade 5 is more for review and practice of language arts skills covering both spelling and writing. It's similar to the idea of Front Row where they can earn points. It progresses through each lesson and they cannot move on until they pass the next. There is also a tab off to the side that gives a short lesson if they forget the concept. It was chosen to give students the opportunity to keep practicing their writing and grammar skills. |
Paper
Paper is a tool to use to create new ideas using many different types of formats. You can create story boards, diagrams, and write on pictures. There are many different types of writing tools to create these ideas and you are not limited to just a "pencil." It is like having a piece of paper in front of you and having all the writing utensils and colors you would need. It was chosen because it seems a little bit more user friendly and more diverse than some of those other options. Projects and ideas can also be shared with others by making them "public" or keep them private. |
News-O-Matic
News-O-Matic can be described as another news source that is similar to Time for Kids. It can be used in reading or writing class to practice skills or to use the articles to reflect, persuade or be used to create an opinion piece. |
